Bővebb ismertető
IntroductionThe 1993 edition of the year book of digestive diseases marks the tenth anniversary of this pubhcation. We have reviewed more than 3,500 articles and selected 251 for inclusion with abstracts and comments, 26 for capsules and comments, and 15 for the visual vignettes section. We have adhered to a traditional format based on the organ system, including various sections that cross the broad disciplines of gastroenterology, hepatology, and digestive surgery. This is exemplified by the sections on AIDS and nutritional considerations, and by the extended discussion of selected surgical topics. The selections again include a mix of basic advances, new insights into mechanisms of disease, clinical smdies dealing with diagnosis and therapy, and the usual manifestations of common disorders. We have emphasized the selection of papers that will be of practical use to practicing gastroenterologists, hepatologists, radiologists, and surgeons. As always, we are interested in our readers' reactions to the Year Book of Digestive Diseases, and we welcome your comments. We thank Flora Roeder, Shirley Sears, Ruth Stricklen, Tammie Smith, and Shannon Harless for their continued fine efforts in the preparation of the manuscript, and Kelly Poirer of Mosby for editorial administrative support.Norton J.
