Preface
Soon after the pubUcation of The Celestine Prophecy, many readers began to ask for more information and to suggest the writing of a study guide. My first response was to hesitate. After all, I consider the novel an "adventure parable," an attempt to relate a story that illustrates the new spiritual awareness many of us see emerging on our planet. And I wasn't sure a guide was appropriate. Our new worldview is not just a set of intellectual facts to be debated pro and con. It is much more intuitive and experiential than that. In fact, it can be argued that those who take a strictly intellectual approach to this subject will be the last to "get it."
The Paradigm shift that is occurring in our time is best thought of as a new common sense, or as what Joseph Campbell called a "new mythology." It may be the result of decades of intellectual description, but at the point where the description becomes lived, our new view is based on experience, not theory. We are getting in touch with something we knew but didn't realize we knew, as we recognize our half-conscious ability to follow hunches, take advantage of coincidental opportunities, and sense a higher spiritual guidance active in our lives. It is not so much a change in philosophy as a shift in how we sense and approach life.
