"Culture is not heritable. The forfaíhers' culture shall soon vanish unless every generation wins it again and again. What one has laboured or even drudged to deserve, only that is what one really holds." We greet all participants, audience of the International Festival of Young Performers with the words of the nation's great son, Zoltán Kodály, esteemed and beloved as composer and music pedagogue. The qualified attendant of the heritage of the renowned son of Kecskemét is the "Zoltán Kodály" Institute for Music Pedagogy which is the host of the llth Kodály Seminar in 1984. In the Institute artists, pedagogues, grown-ups and more and more young people learn the theses of the outstanding personality of Hungárián music education, singing and making music for the pleasure of all. In 1982 for the first time the Choir Camp and Festival of the International Federation of the "Jeunesses Musicales" was received here, those enthusiastic young performers who captivated the music-loving and appreciative audience during their concerts in Kecskemét. Bács-Kiskun County welcomes the young artists. We own the festival in a hope that when organizing it we can contribute to the discovery of excellent talents, to the introduction of contemporary composers, of the folklore traditions of Hungary. We trust that the artists will consider this meeting a successful stage in their career and will frequently return as welcome guests: that the younger generations of artists take and enrich the values of music culture, get equal to their inheritance.
