Bővebb ismertető
Galilee Is a centre for touring and visiting sites of historic interest. The Jordan river flowing into the Sea of Galilee, hot mineral springs, mountains and lush green fields all contribute to the ever-changing scenery of this veritable feast for the eyes. Holidaymakers enjoy the mild climate with guaranteed sunshine throughout the year. Watersports, horseback riding, cruising over the lake, fishing or just lazing - these are but a few of the diverse activities that are readily available. As darkness falls the night clubs and discos of Tiberias come alive. Beach restaurants serve the delicacy of the area, mousht - also called St. Peter's fish - freshly caught that morning from the Sea of Galilee. Dining under the stars is indeed an experience to be remembered with much pleasure - a perfect end to a perfect day. The lake possesses a rare beauty, everchanging: In the clear golden early winter morning, in the shimmering sunlight of a hot summer afternoon, on a misty evening in spring, in sunset or full moon, always reflecting the hills of Galilee and the Golan in its waters. It is because of this unique ever-changing aspect that Jewish sages used to say, "After the Lord had created the seven seas, it was the Sea of Galilee he loved the most " Pious Jews make an annual pilgrimage to the burial sites of many of the renowned teachers and philosophers in and around Tiberias. For many, Galilee is closely linked with the name of Jesus and his disciples. The Sea of Galilee provides the background for some of the most touching events in the Gospels: How Jesus calmed the storm (Mark IV, 34-41), and walked on the waters (Mark VI, 45-46); how he filled the empty fishing net (Luke V, 47) and gathered there his apostles Simon, Andrew, James and John (Matthew IV, 18-22). Many sites around the lake are associated with the New Testament such as Tabgha, Capernaum, Chorazim and Kursi. Even today as in the time of Peter, fishermen dread the sudden violent winter storms that whip up the waters: "And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, being swamped by the waves, but he was asleep." (Matthew VIII, 24). .iwwewl
