Bővebb ismertető
The Museum of Tatabánya was founded in 1971 from the material of the Modern History collection of the county museum. Its county-collection profilé of Modern and Contemporary History was extended with arcaeology in 1992. In 1997 the self-government of the town of Tatabánya - commemorating the 50th anniversary of the town-foundation - invested a huge sum of money in the renovation of the museum's central building. The exhibition space has been considerably expanded - enabling the creation of a new modern permanent exhibition on the history of the settlement. The new exhibition opened on lOth October 1997, and on two floors it presents the development of the ancestor settlements within the area of the present town from ancient times until the formation of the town in 1947. The first big section of the exhibition presents the archaeological finds of the past. It is the first time in the museum's history that the archaeological relics of the area of Tatabánya are shown to the public. The majority of the objects were found at the excavations of the past few years, hence it's a material unknown even to experts. The second big section presents the development of Tatabánya from the reconstruction of the ancestor settlements after the Turkish destruction until the beginnings of mine-exploitation, and then from the opening of mines until the establishment of the town. This exhibition unit is based on the museum's rich collections of lifestyle- and industryhistory. Though this period of history has already been presented at earlier exhibitions, this new exhibition (hke the arcaeological finds) gives the visitors an opportunity to see groups of objects never seen before.
