The Model of Ancient Jerusalem in the grounds of the Holy Land Hotel enables the visitor to study the city of Jerusalem, its topography and architecture, and to visualize life in the city at the time of the Second Temple, before the Jewish revolt against Rome and the destruction of the city in 70 CE. The model is based on information derived from contemporary sources. Most important is the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, a native of Jerusalem. Much information is found in the New Testament and in Jewish sources -the Mishna, the Tosephta and the Talmuds. The archaeological monuments and the excavations in various parts of Jerusalem are also indispensable sources of knowledge. Local traditions about the location of holy sites in Jerusalem were also taken into account.
