OLD PLAZA CHURCH Shipbuilder Joseph Chapman took four years to build t^uestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeiés—Our Lady Queen of the Angels—Los Angeles's first church, completed in 1822. Until then, the Mission San Gabriel was the nearest place of worship for parishioners who walked the nine miles for Sunday services and holy days.
