IntroductionI've been eating, sleeping and living food since I started writing this book not that I ever had food out of my mind for long before then. I wake up in the morning thinking about what to cook for dinner. Once I've finished eating one meal, I'm wondering about the next. Some of my first childhood memories are based around cooking, so when the time came for me to choose a career route, I followed my heart (or was it my stomach?) and I have since worked with Michelin-starred chefs, written recipes for magazines such as Elle and Olive, and appeared on various television programmes. But when it boils down to it, I'm a home cook and what I enjoy making is fabulous-tasting, great-looking food that's fuss and stress free. What I cook at home depends hugely on what sort of mood I'm in. One day I might be feeling wonderfully extravagant and want to prepare a glamorous dinner for my husband Phil and some friends. Another day I'll be in a really lazy mood and can't be bothered to spend long cooking at all. Our moods can change as quickly as the weather and it is amazing how they dictate our day and what we fancy eating. I bet there are loads of times when you've planned a meal in advance and when it comes to cooking or eating it, you've gone off the idea. It's the same sort of thing when we go out to a restaurant. One time you might fancy, say, bangers and mash because you feel in need of some comfort. Another time when you go to the same place, you order a big salad because your mood is telling you to be a little healthier and good to yourself. If it's our moods that influence what we want to eat, then it's certainly worth taking care of them and making sure we pamper them with delicious food.
